In addition to specifications, a criteria for success is used as a guideline when generating ideas, concepts and designs. The evaluation criteria retrospectively differs from the specifications, as it is what controls a design’s purpose and functionality. In this case, the criteria evaluates concepts and designs against the following:
Must utilize recycled timber in any way, shape or form.
Attempt to minimize damage against the smart device while at the same time keeping a sleek and simplistic profile. Furthermore keeping a thin/sleek profile allows the device to feel comfortable and light in the hand.
Remain aesthetically pleasing through the use of naturalistic colors and materials, predominant use of reclaimed timber to maintain soft and natural feel.
Maintain easy accessibility to the smart devices interfaces, i.e.; screen estate, USB/charging, audio input/output, camera/s, microphone/speakers, wireless antennae, external buttons, etc.
Must feel comfortable to the hand, comfortable to use, easy to use and intuitive to use and implement with smart device (anthropometrics/ ergonomics). Put simply, designed for humans.
Design takes into account the design of fragile components, such as glass screens, of the smart device and attempts to minimize damage based on those points. Furthermore the design works passively with the phones antennae.
